About Books to Prisoners:
Books to Prisoners Olympia works to offset the dehumanizing effects of incarceration by sending quality used books free of charge to prisoners all over. We are entirely operated by volunteers, our library entirely stocked by donated books.
Where we’re at as autumn approaches…
Our greatest need at Books To Prisoners this late summer and fall of 2008 is for some new strong volunteers who wish to take on organizational responsibility. We have numerous great people to thank for filling requests & seeking out book donations… but we need extra support with the basic organizational duties behind this work. Some examples: picking up crates of ready-to-mail packages and delivering them to the post office, planning events for outreach to the community, keeping the Dumpster Values $1 bin clean and kept-up, responding to email and voicemail messages, and picking up book donations from drop-spots around town. Dumpster Values has been continually donating proceeds from the sale of clothing in their $1 bin to pay for postage- (money which has lubricated BTPs joints like they’ve never been lubricated before!) All this in addition to the every day diligence of a continually growing and changing batch of volunteers.
